September 2023 | Smith Rock State Park, Central Oregon
As you walk through the towering rock formations of basalt, overlaying older clarno ash and tuff, that formed over 30 million years ago, and along the winding Crooked River, through the shoreline paths and up the steep hills, you’ll notice the majesty of the rock that Smith Rock is known for. The stone is harsh, vigorous, steep, weathered, and deep with colors.
In this photo collection, I aimed to create portraits of these rocks. To tell their story through individual portraits. I wanted to bring each rock, seen as inanimate, alive. The rock has its own story and history to tell, and this collection aims to tell it.
